Rules: The Ball

Two's Company

March/April 2008

After hitting a tee shot, my ball landed next to my partner's. Should she have moved her ball, or should I have tried to hit mine without hitting hers?
Lorraine Delgado, Allentown, PA

Rule 22-2 (Ball Interfering with Play) says that if the proximate balls are the same distance from the hole, simply flip a coin to determine who will play first. If you win, have the other player mark and lift her ball without cleaning it. The mark should be moved to the side so it won't interfere with your stroke. Play your ball; then your partner can replace her mark in its original position and play her ball.
