What is RSS?
Depending on whom you ask, the acronym RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication," "Rich Site Summary," or any of a handful of other terms. An RSS feed (also known as a content feed) is a site's syndicated content feed that you can subscribe to, using a news reader. Syndication means you don't have to visit each site individually to see what's new — you simply scan headlines or brief article summaries and click to read the full text. That's the "really simple" part.
RSS is an XML-based format for sharing and distributing Web content, such as news headlines. By using an RSS reader, you can view information from various sources, including headlines, summaries, links to full stories, etc.
What are feeds?
A feed (also known as an RSS feed) is a listing of a Web site's content. It is updated whenever new content is published to the site. You can "subscribe" to feeds, which means Web sites download lists of stories and present them to you in your feed reader. A feed might contain a list of new recipes or feature headlines. All news feeds will have a link back to the Web site, so if you see a headline/tip/story you like, you can click on the link and be taken to the Web site to read it.
Why do I want them?
RSS is a useful tool for keeping updated on your favorite Web sites. RSS uses an XML code that constantly scans the content of a Web site for updates and then broadcasts those updates to all subscribers through a feed.
Because our Golf for Women feeds update as new features and stories are added to the site, you get up-to-the-minute news, tips, features, blog posts, Web exclusives and more. RSS feeds are used by people who appreciate the convenience of up-to-the-minute news and reports and the time saved by reading only those updates that interest them.
Using a news reader for your Web media means you need to visit a Web site only when you see a story in your news reader that interests you. Your news reader will automatically check for updates and let you know when there is a new story to be read!
How do I subscribe to Golf for Women's feeds?
There are a number of ways to access RSS feeds:
You can download a news reader that displays RSS feeds from the Web sites you select, enabling you to view hundreds of headlines at once.
Or, you can use a Web-based news reader. For example, My Yahoo! or My MSN users can now add RSS feeds directly to their personal page.
At Golf for Women, we make it easy. Simply select the way you want to view the RSS feeds from the menu on the Golf for Women Feed Summary Page.
