Travel Deals of the Week

The big game is over, but you can play your own at one of these desert oases.

By Tara Gravel February 5, 2008

Has watching Sunday's hotly-contested Super Bowl in Arizona left you clamoring for a desert retreat? Desert golf provides contrasts and challenges that you can't find anywhere else (jumping Cholla, anyone?). Here are deals at four Southwestern hotspots where you can heat up your game in style.

The Lodge at Ventana Canyon
2
The Lodge at Ventana Canyon, Tucson, Arizona
Golf Getaway Package

Details: The package includes suite accommodations and one round per person, per day on either the Mountain (shown left), which ranks 16th on Golf for Women's Top 50 Courses, or the Canyon.

What You'll Love: This boutique, all-suite resort has miles of hiking trails on its 600 acres. Plus, The Lodge will work with groups to create special packages.

Cost: From $499 to $569 per room, per night through Mother's Day (May 11). Service charge and taxes are additional. The rate drops considerably in May.

Contact: 520-577-4015, thelodgeatventanacanyon.com

Valid: Through December 31, 2008

Westin Mission Hills
3
Westin Mission Hills, Rancho Mirage, California
From the Fairways to the Spa Package

Details: Stay in a standard room and play one round of golf on one of the resorts two courses (advanced tee times required), then experience any 60-minute spa treatment.

What You'll Love: The resort's lush Pete Dye (shown left) and Gary Player courses are a stunning contrast to the mountains and desert. If they wear you out, you can recover in the soothing Spanish-Moorish-style spa with anything from a facial to mud wrap to massage.

Cost: Rates start at $418 per room per night, not including tax and $20 daily resort fee.

Contact: 866-716-8132, starwoodhotels.com

Valid: Through December 31, 2008

Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North
4

Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North, Scottsdale, Arizona
Winter Golf Package

Details: Casita accommodations, a breakfast credit of up to $65 for two daily and two rounds per night.

What You'll Love: The resort just underwent a $17 million makeover, but more importantly, the Monument and Pinnacle (shown left) courses, which were always highly-rated tracks for big hitters, were reconfigured by Tom Weiskopf last fall. They're now a much more pleasant experience for the rest of us, too.

Cost: Per room, per night cost starts at $1,170 through April 7, 2008; $975 from April 8 to May 4; $845 from May 5-10; $645 from May 11-20, and $605 from May 21-31. Golf tax included.
